National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebrations - June 21 2024

🌟 Join Us for Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration! 🌟

In honour of National Indigenous Day, Native Montreal, the Southern Quebec Inuit Association (SQIA), and the Tasiutigiit Association invite you to celebrate with us on June 21 at Parc Arthur-Therrien in Verdun. From 1 PM to 8 PM, we have a day full of activities for all ages. No sign-up required! Come one, come all to celebrate the richness of Indigenous culture. 🎉

Call-out for Presenters on Indigenous Languages for Native Montreal Indigenous Language Conference: August 21, 2024

Native Montreal has long championed the preservation and revitalization of Indigenous languages, offering enriching language courses for nearly 8 years. Our mission is to support the vibrant urban Indigenous communities in Tio'tia:ke (Montreal).

Our conference's theme is “Seven Generations Speaking Together” which reflects the deep intergenerational roots of our languages, spanning the past, present, and future. Our aim is to create dynamic spaces that nurture the transmission of language and culture across generations, empowering families and communities.

Join us as we explore the challenges and triumphs in Indigenous language revitalization. This conference is an opportunity to share innovative practices, set ambitious goals, tackle obstacles, and craft creative solutions.

We invite presentations on a diverse range of topics, including but not limited to:

  • Delivering presentations entirely in an Indigenous language

  • Immersion programs: Crafting immersive environments and Family Language nests

  • MAP (Mentor-Apprentice Programs)

  • Curriculum development and program planning

  • Language and Technology integration

  • Identifying and overcoming Challenges and Solutions

  • Language on the land: Exploring Identity and Cultural Connection

  • Focusing on Babies, children, Parents, Youth, Elders, Women, and Knowledge keepers

  • Traditional Parenting in Traditional Language

  • Generational transmission from elders to babies

  • Sharing and celebrating best practices
